Two gents working the elegant side of dress and life--just to see if a bit of old world charm will flourish at BM. Biggest challange--how to keep fresh flowers for our lapels. Flying in, so we are a bit short on ostentatious infrastructure. E-mail if your camp might have a welcome spot--we are, of course, polite helpful and mostly well behaved. -- Breck, August 26, 1997 at 7:16p

KOKOPELLI / KOSHARE, if you know what I mean... -- PETER, August 24, 1997 at 11:47p

Trying to feel my way into a Camp...I am riding a motorcyle from SFO after flying in from Japan/China where I teach skating (in-line). Roces has sent to me offroad skates and I think I'm going to skate the desert. Other than this I think that I will just come and drink some water. The woman who I will travel with is also without-camp. Perhaps there is a camp for people who don't have a camp? But once you joined, you would no longer be eligible. Hmmm. I think this late night email has caused more question and consternation than it has solved. I have to go now. -- Dave Cooper/Stephanie Styron, August 24, 1997 at 10:30p

Can anyone tell me about Polaroid Camp? This photographer -- going to BM and nuts about Polaroids -- looking for other instantly developable art kooks. Any info much appreciated. Thanks! -- Geoff, August 24, 1997 at 4:36p

They've told us if we can find a place, we can have our camp. Does anyone mind having us as neighbors, or sharing part of your space with us? I'm expecting a dozen or so people. Web page is on the way. -- Charlie, August 15, 1997 at 0:42a

We want to join the LAWN GAMES CAMP! Our Extreme Bocce team, the "Bocce Brawlers," will be arriving at the Playa on Thursday and would love to show anyone how to correctly aim at a burning palino. -- Ken Hill (Bone Daddy), August 11, 1997 at 9:17p

Wall-sprites be praised...but these are no ordinary wall-sprites! (okay, here's a better explanation): I do makeup for people who want to look like trees, brick walls, castle walls, sand, food, or sky. I learned this cool technique from a book about a guy who does 3-D face art... I've made myself up to resemble a wall of bricks (white on black) with arched windows for eyes, and won prizes every time. It's a striking effect, best worn at night by fire. I will wear or create upon the skin of others. I will do entire bodies. It takes a LONG time if you want something intricate... Any interest? Naiya -- Naiya Cominos, August 11, 1997 at 3:07p

Do you like lingerie, martinis, nurses costumes and Burning Man?? If so, come meet me at Windchime Camp (could be called Blowing in the Wind Camp) or e-mail me. This will be my first time but I'm camping with people who have gone to Burning Man five times and more. I'm from New York City. Is anyone from NYC or Germany going and interested in partying?? -- Josie, August 10, 1997 at 8:30p

once upon a time there was a man named Jed, who when it got hot liked to walk naked, but in the town he lived he'd be looked at like a fool, and they'd bust him downtown and they'd lock him in the cool, 'ler that is, so one day Jed went some place far from here, where people walk around in the air without fear, it made him feel free and that gets him kinda giddy, now he's packing up his truck and heading off to Rock City, Black Rock City that is, looking for theme camps, for THE WALKING NAKED -- jeff, August 10, 1997 at 1:55p

Ziggy and Christine are creative, hardworking, nice and eager to participate in a theme camp. We have some ideas for projects (macro & micro) we'd like to build/incorporate into a theme camp. How 'bout an interactive Labrynth with a mysterious, special surprise for those who journey to the center (could be fun day and night). How 'bout a glow-in-the-dark camp (all things flour and phosphorescent). We also like water, interactive musical sculptures, shade and toys (fun things to play with, create & destroy). Crazy Canadian planning on making the big trip from Ontario. I'm currently looking for a camp where hard work and an wild Canuck spirit would be welcome. I will make and interesting addition to any camp. Interesting being a relative term. Phone 613-342-1490 -- Jason W, July 4, 1997 at 9:38a

Jen and others whom it may concern: participation is more a factor of helping and being helped by others at Black Rock City. The only "rules" regarding participation in a camp are those laid out and discussed by the camp founders themselves. Most would be happy to have you help them construct their projects, provided the vision and drive are there. I, for one, am planning an Aliceum Camp with about 8 to 10 others and would gladly welcome contributions. But theme camps take a great deal of planning and sweat to build, and most people (including me) would not appreciate people taking advantage of their hard work without substantial prior contribution. It's a participatory thing, not a spectator event. The best way to decide upon joining a theme camp is to talk to those involved in its creation: what are their goals, visions, and what work is needed. Subscribe to the various mail lists. Get involved! -- Steven, July 3, 1997 at 4:47p

A few of us are planning to attend the festivities this year.... and not being completely informed on all the ins and outs... I was just curious, can you make the decision fo which camp/village you may wish to join... AFTER you get there???? Any enlightening tips as the this related topic and any other would be greatly appreciated...Thanks -- Jen, July 3, 1997 at 10:54a

1st timer, climber, photographer, net-head, reader, non-drinker, straight-but-not-narrow male, 28 in Berkeley seeks excellent people to play with for Burning Man. Hard work is fine, as long as it's in the service of wonder! email chris at alpha@earthling.net -- chris maytag, July 3, 1997 at 9:49a

I'm looking for a camp. I have climbing gear, bondagey gear, technical and mechanical know-how, and a really twisted.. pair of earrings (that i've only found 111 uses for as of yet). Personally, I'd love to find someone who wanted to do something along the lines of still life motionless but breathing (panting) Michael Manning. Take all day to set up only two or three scenes... But since I'm not thin lithe and hermaphroditic I'm not real confident. Well, that and the fact that the liquid latex budget would be outrageous (HEH! :) Anyone who wants a warm body to do twisted things mail me. -a dancing marsupial -- Dooooooon, June 30, 1997 at 4:57p

I am considering building a large dwelling built of aluminium tube. It can be Pyramidal or hexapodal or something. Very strong. Does anyone want me in thier theme camp? Any sugestions on size or shape? It can be 30' tall and 3 floors, or it can be minimal. Maybe a trampoline 2nd floor. -- Joe, June 30, 1997 at 7:31a

Looking for a village - 8 or 9 of us. In keeping with this year's theme of fertility, we will be bringing to Hualapai an EGGCHAIR serving as the centerpiece of our camp. Come nestle in our womb-like throne, permeable by way of built-in speakers. Float like a yoke while your hosts hatch up eclectic music & sounds from around the globe.
