I can pound nails put, put up walls, fix computers and cars, paint, color. All I ask in return is food and the companionship of a female. Email:thylvethor@aol.com -- Steve, January 8, 1998 at 9:21p

::ATTENTION ALL:: Do you have experience in roofing, plumbing, electrical wiring, or general carpentry??? Then your help and knowledge sure could be put to use at the event site anytime, especially during the volunteer cleanup effort the weekend of the 10th, 11th & 12th. (Oct) There is much work to be done at Annie & Vans ranch (they are the wonderful people who allowed us to set up Black Rock City on the Playa). Repairs, helping with construction on the ranch, hauling out left items, carpentry of all sorts are needed. Arrange supplies with Annie and Van "before" you head out. Donate some of your skills to these wonderful people; pound a few nails, help install a door, insulate something, hang some siding, ask "how can I help"? Someone who could have a creative idea or two regarding "communications" for the ranch would be great (any mobile communication speacialists out there?). Hope to see you out there. P.S. have an extra 1/4 or 1/2 chord of good firewood that you don't need? They could use it for the Winter (theirs was 'borrowed' during the event). A lot is being done at the ranch, but "more able bodies" would help to speed things up a bit. Hope to see you out there. Much, much love. -- Shona, October 2, 1997 at 2:44p

SEATTLE area BM participants: let's form a group and keep it tight we'll keep the feeling goin on for now its only 339 days till the night when he'll raise his arms to the song of life so crisp it sings along -- Michael Dee Case Jr., September 28, 1997 at 10:37p

The November 2 is good day to have a party/funraiser. I understand that CNN/TNT/What ever station is doing an esisode on BM97. It is a Sunday and I believe its starts 7PM eastern time. Take over local bars, party in the streets, what ever. Great time to remember BM97 and raise money so we can have a BM98. -- "White trash", September 26, 1997 at 4:51p

I know no person named Elizabeth Harvey, and she seems to have information the Burning Man Project has NOT been privy to. I do not believe this is correct information. -- Maid marian, September 25, 1997 at 5:16p

WASHINGTON DC- yea, we're a far way from the playa, but that'll make it all the sweeter. We brought a little subversive culture jamming thought back into the betlway- so what say we connect, go out, and share some memories and raise a few $$$ for next year? -- Tom, September 25, 1997 at 2:43p

ANNOUNCEMENT! ANNOUNCEMENT! ANNOUNCEMENT! On behalf of Larry, I am proud to announce that an anonymous donor from the state of California has just agreed to donate $125,000 to Burning Man. These desperately needed funds will go to pay off outstanding debts and insure that Burning Man will exist for years to come. Thank you to everyone who contributed to the effort. It has been your help that has made it possible to climb out of this giant hole. With this gift of $125,000, one man/woman served to insure that thousands more will learn and grow from the unique experience in the desert -- an experience we call "Burning Man." -- Elisabeth Harvey, September 25, 1997 at 8:17a

The Portland Connection. Mos Isley is in the works. All contributions, assistance, ideas, whatever wanted. -- MR.E, September 24, 1997 at 10:54p

Burning Man ¹97 was one of the three most intense experiences in my life. It was so great to be in a COMMUNITY, after living in Vegas for six years. This city probably has the least sense of community in the nation, which, I believe is directly related to having the highest suicide rate. At any rate, we are moving to Austin in January and would be pleased to help with Central Texas BM events. We have videos of the local Reno TV coverage of the event from all four channels. Some are quite good, especially the one on the Fox affiliate. -- Stan Peyton, September 23, 1997 at 9:12p

DATELINE: LOS ANGELES -- Ultra super-duper thanks to everyone who made it to the FIRST (and not last!) L.A. burners gathering! Special thanks also to Danger Ranger, who flew all the way down from S.F. to enlighten us with his presence! Just to let you know -- we collected over $1,000, and we weren't even trying that hard. Thanks for recharging my battery -- and my friends who didn't go to Burning Man and are sick of hearing me talk about it incessantly thank you as well, for giving me an evening's outlet. It was great meeting all of you, I'm so glad we had such a high and enthusiastic turnout. Wasn't Nova Express cool? I'm looking forward to the next time -- which incidentally is scheduled for October 25 at 1:00 p.m.-- the First Annual All-Star Calvinball Invitational Tournament and Picnic is ON! Keep in touch, and I'll see you there! -- Hurricane Linda, September 22, 1997 at 5:40p

Anyone know of any events in Florida? If not, and you live in the area and are interested in organizing a BM fund raising party, drop me a line. -- Steve Velazquez, September 21, 1997 at 11:56p

Oh, I have a party every once in a while (depends on finances) called Tiki Fest where I turn my backyard into a polynesian extravaganza with exploding volcanoes, a lagoon, tropical drinks, surfing videos, and music. I've gotten up to about 250 people, but I try to keep it around 150 (I've had 7 Tiki Fests so far). For a long time I wanted Tiki Fest to be the best party anyone had ever been to. Burning man has swept me away, it is like 100 different Tiki Fests, each with the same amount of commitment by their creators. In fact, my thought at the moment is that the best way to describe Burning Man is as a Party of Parties. You throw your own personal party and anyone from 0 to 10000 people could show up. So I'm thinking of setting up a Tiki Camp next year, which would be a Tiki Fest for the duration of Burning Man. One of my favorite camps at BM was the Fern Grotto. During the day they had a structure filled with fern plants, a fountain, and drip spray water system while playing ambient music. Yes, in the middle of the dessert, mid-day, this is a great place to be. I talked to the organizers and they said it had started about 10 years ago as a party in the middle of the Mohave dessert. They got up to about 60 people but then got bored of having the same old friends attend. So last year they moved it to Burning Man. Now they are an institution and probably have a few hundred people pass though during the event. There are literally a hundred camps like that with a similar story. I am in Dallas and I am an actor/director and fiddle with computers to try to pay the bills. I would like to explore doing something in the Dallas/FW area...taking a short drive to Austin isn't that unpleasant, either. I would love to know if anyone else is interested...and I don't honestly know what a "Tiki Camp" is...Duh! -- Sarah Lyon, September 21, 1997 at 1:17p

I'm also in Austin and am very serious about organizing an event/fund raiser. I've been in contact with a person
